What is the difference between a gabion box and a gabion mattress?
A gabion box is a roughly cubic unit, commonly 1 m high, used to build retaining walls and mass structures. A gabion mattress is the same double-twisted mesh in a flat unit 0.17–0.30 m high, laid across a riverbed or slope. Boxes build height; mattresses cover and protect an area.
