Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between knuckle and twist edges?

A knuckle edge is folded back on itself, so there is no exposed wire end and the fence is safer to handle. A twist edge leaves a barbed finish along the top, which deters climbing. Knuckle-knuckle is common for public sites; knuckle-twist is used where a security edge is wanted.

Which aperture should I specify?

50×50 mm is the general-purpose size. Smaller apertures such as 25×25 mm are used for ball courts and where small animals or objects must be contained. Larger apertures reduce cost and weight where only a visual boundary is required.

Does chain link fence need a top rail?

A top rail gives a neater line and helps hold the mesh at the correct height, particularly on taller fences and around sports pitches. On short domestic fences it is often omitted.
